Sakarya Province is one of the major cities of Turkey with its historical nature, geographical location and conditions, with the developing sectors as industry, agriculture and service.

The province is vulnerable to human settlements since BC XII. Phrygia Age firstly and continued with Bithynia, Cimmerians, Lydians, Persians, Romans, Byzantines and Ottomans one after another. Sakarya entered into the Ottoman domination and than into  the Seljuks domination. At that time, the name of Sakarya was called Adapazarı and Adapazarı Municipality was established in 1868. The  province’s name has changed and been Sakarya from 22 June 1954. The Municipality  gained the status of metropolitan municipality on 6 March 2000.

History

Sakarya province is in the northeast section of the Marmara Region, took its name from the famous river Sakarya. This river gives life to the fertile lands of the province of Sakarya. The geographical structure of Sakarya is another cause of attraction offers factories  advantage in their freight activities.

As such, it offers more advantages than other regions of the country and the World in terms of investment environment. Region is eligible and  advantageous for human settlement since it has woodlands, arable fields, rainy climate, abundant sources of drinking water, plains, rivers, lakes and variety of natural attractions. The climate is Mediterranean due to its close proximity to the Black Sea.

Sakarya has a high potential in primarily forestry and nut production, breeding areas for large and small ruminant animals, agricultural areas, in industry with international scale organizations and in service sector with many tourist attractions in the area.
